Welcome from the Chaplain, Rev'd Dr. Jonathan Arnold

Welcome and thank you for visiting the Worcester College Chapel website. Worcester College is part of the University of Oxford, and its chapel holds regular services during term, many of which are sung by the Chapel Choirs. There is a regular Monday lunchtime discussion group in the Chaplain's rooms and many special events throughout the term.

New Service Pattern for Mixed Choir
This term the Mixed Choir will sing for several Sunday evening College Evensongs (weeks 1, 3, 5, 7 and 8). In addition to the existing Plainsong Compline, we are introducing a new Choral Compline on a Wednesday evening at 9 p.m. (after guest night dinner in hall) sung by the Mixed Choir and on Thursdays the Mixed Choir will sing either Choral Eucharist or Choral Evensong.

The Woodroffe Society
Every Monday lunchtime from 12.30 p.m. until 2.00 p.m. a group meets in the Chaplain’s room for a free lunch to talk about God, ethics, faith, doubt, the bible or just life. All are welcome to this open, non-judgmental and frank discussion group. This term we shall be discussing ‘Faith on the Frontiers’ with talks each week from Chaplains working in the armed forces, prisons, hosptials and hospices . If you are interested in joining this group then please then please speak to the Chaplain or just come along.

The Woodroffe Society Dinner
The Society Dinner is open to all members of College and provides a forum to discuss moral, ethical and religious issues. This term the society meets at 7 pm on Tuesday 22nd May (fifth week) in the Linbury Building for a formal dinner (£16 charge to battels). The speaker is Prof. Tariq Ramadan, Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies in the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Oxford University. If you would like to come to this event then please contact the Chaplain.

Special Events

Organ and Choral Awards Open Day Evensong
On Saturday 21st April (0th week) there is an open day for prospective candidates for choral and organ awards. There will be an evensong in Chapel at 6.15 p.m. sung by the Mixed Choir and visiting students. All are welcome to attend.

Concert in Wolvercote
The Boy Choristers’ Choir will be singing a concert on Saturday 28th April at 7.30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Wolvercote in collaboration with Blackbird Leys Choir. All welcome.

Christian Union Service in Chapel
On Wednesday 9th May at 6 p.m. the Christian Union will hold a service of readings, music and reflection in the Chapel. Refreshments afterwards. All welcome.

Confirmation Service
The Bishop of Oxford will preside at a Confirmation Service for College students on Wednesday 16th May at 5.30 p.m. All are welcome to attend and support those being confirmed.

Joint Evensong for Ascension with St. Peter’s College Chapel Choir
The Mixed Choir will join the choir of St. Peter’s College for a joint Choral Evensong in St. Peter’s College Chapel on Thursday 17th May (fourth week) at 6.15 p.m. All welcome.

Roman Catholic Mass
The Roman Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Thursday 24th May (fifth week) at 6 p.m. in the Chapel. The Mixed Choir will sing the service. There will be an opportunity to have a meal together in Oxford afterwards. All welcome.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Tuesday 5th June (seventh week) there will be a Festal Evensong in Chapel at 6.15 p.m. The preacher at the College Evensong on Sunday 3rd June will be the Rev’d Hugh Bearn, Chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen.

End of Year Concert
On Thursday 14th June at 6 p.m. both Chapel Choirs will give an end of year concert in the Chapel at 6 p.m. Free entry and refreshments afterwards. All are welcome.
