Worcester College is part of the University of Oxford, and its chapel holds regular services during term, many of which are sung by the Chapel Choirs.

Special Events this Term

The Woodroffe Society

Every Monday lunchtime from 12.30 p.m. until 2.00 p.m. a group meets in the Chaplain’s room for a free lunch to talk about God, ethics, faith, doubt, the bible or just life. All are welcome to this open, non-judgmental and frank discussion group. If you are interested in joining this group then please then please speak to the Chaplain or just come along.

Corporate Communion

On Thursday 13th May (third week) there will be a Corporate Communion for the feast of the Ascension with the combined choirs of Worcester College Chapel at 6 p.m. in the Chapel followed by a free buffet supper in the Ruskin Lane Building afterwards. All welcome.

Joint Evensong with St. Peter’s College Chapel Choir
There will be a joint Choral Evensong with the choirs of St. Peter’s and Worcester College on Thursday 20th May in St. Peter’s College Chapel at 6 p.m. All Welcome.

The Woodroffe Society Dinner
The Society Dinner is open to all members of College and provides a forum to discuss moral, ethical and religious issues. This term the society meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday 25th May (fifth week) in Lecture Room B and afterwards in the Linbury Building for a formal dinner (£16 charge to battels). The speaker is Dr. Susan Gillingham, Reader and Fellow in Theology at Worcester College, who will be giving an illustrated talk on the chapel entitled: ‘“A Temple Masking a Church”: The Nineteenth-Century Restoration of Worcester College Chapel’. If you would like to come to this event then please contact the Chaplain.

Vespers
On Wednesday, 2nd June (6th week) at 9 p.m., members of the choir will sing Latin Vespers of the medieval office of Corpus Christi, which commemorates the institution of the Eucharist. The texts and plainsong are transcribed from manuscripts used in the province of York.

Stepping into Silence

A prayer and meditation walk around the college is mapped out in a leaflet available at the back of Chapel. Please take one and enjoy the grounds in peace at this stressful time.

Plays in Chapel this Term

Henry VIII
Performances of Shakespeare’s Henry VIII will take place on Thursday May 6th (7.45 p.m.), Friday May 7th (7.45 p.m.) and Saturday May 8th (2 p.m. and 7.45 p.m.). Tickets available from www.oxfordplayhouse.com/ticketsoxford.

The Dispute
Buskins performances of The Dispute by Pierre Marivaux will take place on the 13th, 14th, and 15th May, all at 8 p.m. "Watch the world being recreated from scratch, its first inhabitants come to life. Hear their first words, their first loves, their first lies.” For tickets email thedisputeboxoffice@gmail.com

Restorative Justice Talks
Talks on Restorative Justice, with guest speakers, will take place in the Memorial Room on Thursday 13th May and Thursday 17th June at 1 p.m. This is in association with the Oxfordshire Restorative Justice Network. Free lunch. All welcome.

Roman Catholic Mass
The Roman Catholic Mass will take place on Thursday June 10th (seventh week) at 6 p.m. in the Chapel. The service will be taken by Fr. Nicholas King SJ. There will be an opportunity to have a meal together in Oxford after the service. All welcome.

Joint Service for St. Barnabas’ Day
On Friday 11th June (seventh week) at 7.30 p.m. there will be a High Mass at St. Barnabas Church, Jericho, for the feast of St. Barnabas with the joint choral forces of Worcester College Chapel and St. Barnabas Church Choirs. All welcome.

End of Term Concert
There will be an end of term concert given by the two Chapel Choirs on Thursday 17th June (eighth week) at 6 p.m. in the Chapel with drinks afterwards outside the Chapel. Admission free. All welcome.
