Whilst the main focus of the work of the choirs at Worcester College is to perform music in chapel services, both the boys’ choir and the mixed choir enjoy performing in concerts in Oxford and elsewhere.

Worcester College Chapel, December 1st 2016: A Festival of Christmas

Join Worcester’s two chapel choirs and the staff choir for a festive celebration of music for Christmas and Advent, including carols old and new, our carol competition winner, and carols for all to join in.

Past concerts:

Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy, London: November 16th 2016: Fauré Requiem   

The mixed choir returned to the Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy to perform an evening concert featuring Fauré’s famous requiem and a first half of music for the season of Remembrance, including music by Howells, Sheppard, Holst, and Harris.

Holy Trinity Church, Sibford Gower: Saturday June 11th. “I was Glad, Music in Honour of the Queen’s Official Birthday” 

The College’s mixed choir presented a concert of music to celebrate the Queen’s official birthday, including music by Purcell, Parry, McKie, Harris, Vaughan Williams, Wesley, Phillips, and Byrd.

Worcester College Gardens: Monday June 13th. “Sing we at Pleasure”, Music for a Summer’s Evening 

Following its success last year, the mixed choir joined with the college music society to present a music of music for a summer’s evening by the college lake. Including madrigals, and other popular secular music, the mixed choir was be joined by the College’s staff choir, orchestra, and voices.

Worcester College Chapel: Thursday June 16th. “I was Glad”, a Choral Celebration 

Both chapel choirs joined together to present a programme of well known choral works to round off the academic year. The concert concluded with farewell speeches and drinks in the cloisters.

Liguria, Italy: July 18th – 21st. Boys’ choir on tour “A journey through English Choral Music”

The boys’ choir toured to the Italian Riviera in the summer, presenting concerts in Imperia, Nice, and Montegrazie. 

Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy: November 16th. “A New Heaven”. Music for the season of Remembrance, to include Faure’s ‘Requiem’ in the second half 

The mixed choir returned to the Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy to present a programme of two halves. The second half of the programme contained Fauré’s Requiem. 

Christchurch Cathedral, Oxford: Saturday April 23rd: Choristers perform in Music Society Joint Concert  

The choristers represented the College performing in a concert in Christchurch Cathedral. Alongside solo performances from some choristers, the senior boys performed pieces by Vaughan Williams and a three part arrangement of the ‘Libera me’ from Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. 

Worcester College Chapel: Friday May 27th: Joint concert with the choir of Thomas’ School, Kensington 

The Boy Choristers’ Choir hosted the School Choir of Thomas’ School, Kensington for a joint early concert. Each choir performed to a packed chapel of parents and supporters before coming together to perform two pieces together, conducted by Thomas Allery and Allan Herron. 

Worcester College Chapel: December 3rd 2015: A festival of Christmas Carols

The combined forces of Worcester’s boys’, Mixed and Staff choirs joined together for a celebration of Christmas, featuring well known and lesser known choral works for the festive season.

Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy, London: November 15th 2015: Victoria Requiem

The mixed choir presented an evening concert in the heart of London. Before Victoria’s Requiem of 1605 being sung in the second half of the concert, the choir performed English music in the first half.

Puglia, South Italy: 6th – 10th July 2015: Sing Joyfully

The mixed choir toured to South Italy at the end of the year. They presented a series of concert in churches in Monopoly, Bari, Polignaro a Mare, and Ugento. The choir performed music by Byrd, Palestrina, Hyde, O’Regan, Tallis and Holst to packed audiences in each venue.

Christchurch with St. Ewan, Bristol City: June 27th 2015: Worcester College choristers in Concert

At the end of the academic year, the choristers enjoyed presenting a concert of music for upper voices in the heart of Bristol. The choristers performed music by Elgar, Hurford, Tallis and Rutter, alongside organ performances by Daniel Mathieson, in the beautiful church of Christchurch.

Worcester College Chapel: June 18th 2015: A Choral Celebration

The academic year was rounded off by both of Worcester’s choirs performing works by Handel and Purcell, accompanied by the period instrumental group, Ensemble Hesperi. Alexander Goodwin, the senior organ scholar performed movements of Handel’s Organ Concerto no. 13 in F.

Worcester College Gardens: June 15th 2015: My Spirit Sang All Day – Music for a Summer’s Evening

The mixed choir joined with members of the College’s music society for a summer concert set by the iconic lake in Worcester College. The mixed choir presented secular works by Finzi, Morley, Laurisden, and Stanford alongside performances by Worcester’s non-auditioning vocal group, Voices, the College orchestra and the newly formed staff choir. The staff choir is made up members of staff from different parts of the college: they performed a selection of folk songs and a spiritual medley. Audience members enjoyed a glass of pimms as the sun set over the beautiful college gardens.

St. Martin in the Fields: January 9th 2015: Allegri Miserere by Candlelight

The mixed choir presented a programme of a capella choral works featuring music by Weelkes, Tomkins, Byrd and Villette.

Buxton Opera House: December 14th 2014: Christmas Carol Concert

The mixed choir were the guests of the Buxton Choral Society in their annual Christmas concert in the Opera House. On Sunday morning, the choir sang at the Eucharist in St. John’s Church, Buxton.

Worcester College chapel: November 28th 2014: A festival of Christmas Carols

The annual Christmas carol concert in the college chapel rounds off the Michaelmas Term. This concert begins in candlelight with a chorister soloist singing ‘Once in Royal David’s City’. Mince pies and mulled wine are served in the cloisters afterwards.
