Kathleen McDermott
Kathleen McDermott has been involved in church music since the age of seven, when she joined her local church choir at St George’s, Cullercoats, near Newcastle. She began organ lessons with the director of music, Paul Ritchie, and became the organ scholar there in 2004. During her time in sixth form at the
Newcastle Royal Grammar School, Kathleen became involved in many choirs and ensembles, and accompanied the Junior Choir, as well as taking part in drama and the school musical. After gaining distinction in Grade 8 organ in 2006, Kathleen went on to learn at Hexham Abbey with Michael Haynes, and was recently was
awarded a recital there through the Oundle Prospective Organ Scholars course.
She is now having lessons with Stephen Farr and working towards her ARCO diploma as well as assisting with accompanying and conducting the chapel choirs. She also plays in the Worcester College Orchestra and sings in the Chorus.
