Freshers’ Welcome Service

All Freshers are invited to a service to mark the beginning of their career at Worcester College on Thursday of Freshers’ Week (5 October) at 6.45pm. The Chapel is famous throughout Oxford for its beauty and extraordinary design. Now it is at the heart of your life here and a place where you will always find stillness and calm. A drinks reception will follow the service.

 

Open Rehearsal and Auditions for the Chapel Choir
On Saturday of Freshers’ Week (7 October) there will be an opportunity to sing with and to audition for the Chapel Choir. The open rehearsal will begin at 4.30 with Evensong at 6.15 pm. Auditions with the Director of Chapel Music will be held after the service, at approximately 7 pm. Questions or enquiries in advance may be made to [email protected].

 

Freshers’ Evensong

Join us for the first College Evensong of term, sung by the Combined Choirs, and discover the twin pleasures of Chapel and Formal Hall (don’t forget to book in!) 5.45 on Sunday of 1st week (8 October). The Chaplain will preach.

 

Installation of the Chaplain

The Chaplain will be formally inducted by the Provost and the Bishop of Oxford at College Evensong on Sunday of 2nd week (15 October).

Requiem for All Souls
There will be a Sung Requiem on All Souls’ Day, Thursday of 4th week (2 November) at 6 pm. This is an opportunity to remember those we love but see no longer. During the liturgy we will light candles to remember the departed. If you would like anyone remembered by name at the service please print their names on the sheet at the back of Chapel, or email the Chaplain directly.

 

Boys’ Choir Trip to Worcester Cathedral
On Tuesday of 5th at 5.30 pm the Boys’ Choir will sing Evensong at Worcester Cathedral. All are welcome to attend the service.
Joint Evensong with St Peter’s College
The Mixed Choir will sing Evensong with the Choir of St Peter’s College, in their Chapel, at 6 pm on Thursday of 5th week.

 

Concert at the Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy, London
On November 15th (Wednesday of 6th) the Mixed Choir present an evening concert in the Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy in London, featuring motets by Bruckner, Brahms, and Mendelssohn, as well as polyphonic Latin music for Compline. Advent and Christmas Carol Services
The College service of Advent Lessons and Carols will take place on Sunday 26 November (eighth week) at 5.45 pm. On Thursday of 8th week there will be a Carol Concert at 6 pm sung by the Combined Choirs. Both will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the cloister. Come early to get a seat!

 

Community Carol Service

Old Members, Staff of the College, and their families are particularly invited to a Carol Service on Saturday of 8th week (2 December) at 12 pm. All are welcome, and the service will be followed by the usual refreshments in the cloister. Those planning to attend from outside Oxford are asked to contact the Assistant Chaplain for a free ticket.

 

Epiphanytide Festival

At the end of 1st week of Hilary, the Chapel will celebrate an Epiphanytide Festival with Handel’s Messiah, Venetian Vespers, and much more. Please look for publicity during term for tickets and times, but save the dates: Thursday of 1st until Sunday of 2nd!
