Hilary Term 2018: Special Events

Epiphanytide Festival

At the end of 1st week, the Chapel will celebrate an Epiphany Festival. Details are below, and see also the separate leaflets. Come early to get a seat! Tickets for ‘Byrd and Beer’ and Messiah are strongly recommended: worcesterchapel.co.uk/festival


Carol Service, Thurs 18 Jan, 6 pm: The Mixed Choir will sing a Service of Carols to celebrate the season of Epiphany. Drinks and refreshments in the Cloisters after the service.

Harpsichord Masterclass, Fri 19 Jan, 2 pm: With Prof. Terence Charlston, in the Chapel.

‘Byrd and Beer’, Fri 18 Jan, 8 pm: Early music accompanied by craft beer tasting (!) in association with Tap Social. In the Sultan Nazrin Shah Centre.

Handel’s Messiah, Sat 19 Jan, 7 pm: In the Chapel. Pre-concert talk, 5.30 pm.

Venetian Vespers, Sunday 20 Jan, 5.45 pm: Music by Vivaldi, sung by the Combined Choirs, accompanied by period instruments. Bishop Philip North will preach. Pre-service talk, 4.45 pm.


Choral Eucharist for Candlemas

We will commemorate the Presentation of Christ in the Temple at 6 pm on Thursday of 3rd week (1 February).


The Composer Speaks: Arlene Sierra

In this continuing collaboration between the Music Faculty and Chapel, composer Arlene Sierra (Cardiff University) will speak at the Faculty on Monday of 4th week at 4 pm, and her work Alleluia Bitter Sweet will be the anthem at Evensong (6.15 pm) that evening.


Roman Catholic Mass

The Mass will be celebrated on Monday of 5th week (12 February) at 6.15 pm. All are welcome.


Ash Wednesday: Choral Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes

The beginning of Lent will be marked by the celebration of the Eucharist at 6 pm on Ash Wednesday (14 February) during which ash will be imposed on the heads of the faithful. Please come and attend this important service.


Choral and Organ Scholarships Open Day

On 7 March (Saturday of 7th week), the Mixed Choir will host an Open Day for singers and organists interested in applying to Worcester College. There will be workshops with experts, a composite organ recital, and participants will sing Evensong. Special Service: The Way of the Cross

On Thursday of 8th week (8 March) there will be a special service of music and readings to help us walk the way of Christ’s Passion and to form us, that we may follow Christ more closely in our Lenten discipline. Please come to this very special service which will begin at 6 pm.
